What is Shaw Green Edge?
The Shaw Green Edge is their leadership advantage. Their operational and product solutions, as well as the hundreds of divisional, plant and team-led initiatives are helping to change the industry for the better. Shaw Carpet believes in honesty, integrity and hard work, and in constructive solutions and demonstrable progress. They realize that transformational results need long-term investment - that's why they're committed to solutions like cradle to cradle technology and their carpet reclamation program, which benefit customers, businesses, communities and our planet.
What is Eco Solution Q Carpet Fiber?
At Shaw Carpet, their product solutions are proof of their commitment to a sustainable, thriving future. Shaw Carpet is thinking about raw material and our planet’s limited resources in a whole new way.

Not only does Eco Solution Q fiber contain a minimum of 25% recycled content, but as a Cradle to Cradle product, it is fully recyclable back into carpet fiber through depolymerization. This means that Eco Solution Q can be recycled in a continuous loop again and again, forever. Today, Eco Solution Q utilizes an average of 23 million pounds of recycled content annually! This amount will continue to increase as production levels rise. By utilizing the philosophy of Cradle to Cradle in the development of products such as Eco Solution Q, they ’re diverting waste from landfills and reducing the amount of raw materials used in the production cycle. That’s great news for our planet.

Eco Solution Q has been fully assessed by the MBDC protocol to ensure it is safe for human health. And not only is Eco Solution Q better for you and the environment, it actually performs better too. Eco Solution Q sets new benchmarks in durability and tensile strength. Shaw Carpet understands the demands placed on carpet, and they stand by their product with exceptional warranty coverage.

Shaw Carpet is a vertically integrated company, which means they control all aspects of their carpet production. They ’re able to guarantee quality at each step of the manufacturing process, from raw material to the delivery of your carpet. Eco Solution Q is just one of the ways they ’re working to provide you with a better product that benefits our planet.
What is EcoWorx Carpet Backing?
Shaw EcoWorx is proof of Shaw Carpet's commitment to the development of sustainable, high performance product solutions that are great for you and the environment. Since its introduction in 1999, Shaw EcoWorx has been chosen again and again. This incredible market success is validation of Shaw's continued commitment, and has led to the development of Shaw EcoWorx Broadloom.

Shaw Carpet's goal in developing Shaw EcoWorx tile backing was to provide a sustainable alternative to PVC that is superior in durability and value. Shaw EcoWorx is just that – it outperforms traditional PVC, offers cost and installation benefits, is lighter in weight, and is characterized by its unsurpassed tensile, tear and lamination strength. Shaw EcoWorx also contains 40% recycled content contributing to the USGBC LEED certification standards. The benefits don't stop there.

Backed by the industry's only environmental guarantee for carpet backing—at the end of its useful life, Shaw Carpet will pick up your Shaw EcoWorx (at no additional cost) so it can keep on working. What that means is your carpet tile doesn't end up in a landfill—it gets cycled back into the manufacturing process to make more Shaw EcoWorx, again and again, forever! That's a great Cradle to Cradle solution, and a Shaw Green Edge Initiative.
What is Cradle to Cradle?
In nature, there is no waste – only nutrients. In manufacturing, Shaw Carpet can approximate this process by using waste as food for the production cycle. It's a philosophy called Cradle to Cradle, developed by architect William McDonough and environmental chemist Michael Braungart of MBDC. It replaces the take>make>waste production model with the organic cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. In implementing this philosophy, they are diverting more than 200 million pounds from landfills each year, collecting over 60 different categories of waste items for reuse or recycling. Shaw Carpet does more than that – they're reducing the amount of raw materials they use in their production cycle. Shaw Green Edge Initiatives like Eco Solution Q fiber, EcoWorx backing, and our Evergreen facility utilize Cradle to Cradle technology, moving us forward on the path to greater sufficiency and sustainability.
